Gpas and Sports

A student approaches the coach of the team and asks to join. The coach shakes his head and points to the clipboard in his hand. On the top of the list is the student's name. Next to that is his GPA for the quarter, which is, unfortunately for the student, lower than what he had to get to join the team. The student walks away, hurt. He would just have to try harder next quarter.

First of all, students should maintain a degree of academic success in order to participate in sports or other activities in the school because if they are not urged to learn, they will not learn the necessities they will need in the future. In the future, the student will probably change their minds about their careers. Even if they don't, the student may hope to receive a scholarship in a certain sport, but they may not receive one and will have to rely on their academic skills. The student will never be able to pass high school if they continue to fail in all academic courses.

Furthermore, the school does not want many students with low GPAs on sports teams and in organizations because they may influence other students. Influencing other students will cause them to do the same; fail academic courses and get on a sports team. If this continues to happen, then the school will soon be comprised of failing students. The school will soon be a place where no parent in the right state will want to send their child to.

On the good side, if the rule stays, the students will be very successful in all courses and be athletic or involved in an organization. In the future, students will be able to choose whether or not to apply for a scholarship for a sport or an academic. Students could choose whether to become an athlete or select another high-paying job in the future. They will be more accomplished in the future and hopefully have a good job.

Many years from now, all the high schools of the world would proudly refer all their students to the best universities around. The students would receive a choice of applying for a sports scholarship or an academic scholarship. The world would be a smarter place. Everyone would be far more intelligent if this rule enforced for years to come.
