How Education Can be Improved

How do we improve our education? Read this to find out.

Education is one thing that is always sought to be improved. However, in order for education to be improved, the ideal school needs to be in mind. This ideal school should contain elements that both students and faculty can compromise on. An ideal school should have convenient school hours, an organized design, and skilled teachers.

Starting Time

For both students and staff to perform their best on a typical school day, they should not have to wake up too early. One does not have to examine closely to see that students in period one are much less enthusiastic and much more tired than students in period five. This is also true for the teachers. In fact, waking up early is not necessary at all, for one feels tired even if he or she went to bed early the night before. Also, most people go to bed late at night anyways, staying up because they are not tired, regardless of when they woke up in the morning. For the people that do go to bed early (nine o'clock for example), they find that they cannot fall asleep until ten or eleven o'clock.

Organization

For an ideal school to be truly ideal, it must have an organized design. Room numbers should go in order, certain room numbers should not be omitted, and signs should be shown overhead to help a student find his or her classroom. In general, the outline of the school should be logical. For example, there should not be a room 77 and a room 77S; just make 77S room 78. Also, if a sign says “Rooms One-Eleven This Way”, then the school should have rooms one through eleven in that hall as the student expects, instead of rooms two through eleven.

If a school is not organized, then students may often be tardy because they become lost, especially during the first week of school. This slows down the education of the students that came on time; the late student would have to be marked present by the teacher, the teacher would have to stop teaching for a minute or two, etc. Also, a lack of organized design will result in a lack of respect by students towards their school; students will think it was not well-built, and will not think highly of their district.

Staff

Skilled teachers are absolutely necessary for an ideal school to function; they should not be a minority. Skilled teachers should help out students who don't understand the material, be able to finish the curriculum in a timely manner, and motivate students to learn, preferably by being funny or knowledgeable. Without skilled teachers, many students will have trouble understanding the material, and as a result will struggle with an overflow of homework that they do not understand. Also, if an unskilled teacher fails to teach all of the curriculum as planned, the teacher may load students with homework the last few weeks of school. If the teacher simply doesn't finish the curriculum with the year given them, students' teachers next year will have trouble making up for it.

Motivation

Most importantly, students need motivation to learn. If a teacher is boring, students will not pay attention to him or her, and will be forced to either study by themselves, or talk with their friends. This results in a lack of knowledge on the students' part. If a teacher is unknowledgable about a subject, he or she will not be thought of as an expert. Students will start to doubt what they are told, and will start looking up everything in their textbook for confirmation, thus wasting more time.

Any school lacking any of these three necessities cannot be considered an ideal school. Without convenient school hours, students and faculty members cannot function well. Without an organized design, students will lose respect towards their school. Without skilled teachers, students will be unwilling to learn. These will all result in a failure in educating students properly. Without the three necessities that define an ideal school, education is at a loss.
