How to Teach Race and Ethnicity

It is difficult for people to teach about race and ethnicity. Here are some thoughts on the subject.

Many people do not know how to teach race and ethnicity. It is a very difficult subject to teach for most people, mainly because race and ethnicity has often and throughout history caused many wars and conflicts among peoples.

So of course people everywhere do not know how to teach these subjects and also they do not know how to teach these subjects without teaching these subjects from a point of view.

Many race and ethnic groups consider themselves better than other races and ethnic groups and peoples throughout history continue to try to prove this.

This is truly the problem. How to teach about others without continuing this problem.

Every race and ethnic groups has its history of being the oppressed and being the oppressor.

However, every race and ethnicity has made contributions to world civilization. Of course many contributions appear better than others, but they are not.

The Jewish people are a great example to teach people. When the Jews were the slaves of the Romans and the Egyptians, the Romans and Egyptians appeared to be better than the Jewish people.

However, even when the Jewish people were slaves on the material level of the Jewish worlds. Nevertheless, many among the Jewish people knew that even in slavery, Jews kept their great intelligence and their great spirit.

There is not just the material level of peoples that everybody looks at. There is also the intellectual level of peoples and the metaphysical level of peoples.

The intelligence and spirit of peoples can be expressed in many ways, like in the learning and teaching styles, through music and art and literatures, through architecture, through the creative, the spiritual, and the analytical.

This is not easy to prove because usually those who "conquer" the material world are considered the "conquerors."

Of course, people must have material things and materials needs fulfilled, but every race and ethnic group makes material, intellectual and spiritual contributions, and so all of these contributions must be known and recognized.

You can teach about race and ethnic groups via the many different contributions that every race and ethnic group has made to civilization.

All races and ethnic groups when they get to know each other start studying and sharing the greatest contributions of each other. Race and ethnic groups that have "diasporas"--like the Jewish diaspora, the African diaspora, the Irish diaspora, the Hispanic diaspora have always known this.

And almost every race and ethnic groups has its "diaspora" although few think of it as a "diaspora."
