Montessori Schools

How do people in Montessori schools do better than if they were in a standard public school.

Montessori is actually an educational method for children. The teachings were based on an Italian educator named Maria Montessori. This method was used on preschool, kindergarten and elementary school grades. The Montessori Method was built on the way that children develop and think differently than adults.

The method also discourages measurements of knowledge, such as test and grades for Dr. Montessori believed that it would harm the inner growth of children. The way that the method teaches is by providing the child with a list of skills, activities and critical points, and a summary of the child's weaknesses and strengths.

The class or classroom was usually very peaceful and natural. The classroom was filled with nature such as plants, pets, and small gardens on window sills because the Montessori teachers want them to experience as much of nature as possible.

Lessons in the room are handled by the teachers; the students can only start doing an activity only when the teacher or another student has demonstrated the activity correctly. A reading for preschoolers would start with sandpaper letters. Sandpaper letter are pieces of sandpaper one wooden boards and the students trace the sandpaper. Once the letter is mastered, they move onto the next one. Now when the students learn 7-10 sounds, they start with the movable alphabet which means they move letters around in a board to spell a 3 letter word.

There are over 8,000 Montessori schools in the US as well as several hundreds of standard public schools that have Montessori programs. The performance in Montessori schools has better learning skills than in a standard public school such as language, and mathematical reasoning.

If a person went into a Montessori school until kinder, they would perform better on standardized tests of reading and math. And if they were to continue till the end of elementary school, they would right more creative essays with more complex sentence structures and would select more positive solutions for social dilemmas.
