Public Vs. Private

Why to go to a public school instead of a private.

From 1st to 5th grade I went to a magnet elementary school, which is like a private school but it doesn't cost money, called Gilbert, from 6th to 8th I went to a magnet middle school called K.O. Knudson, and in 9th grade I went to another magnet program, a high school called LVA. When I switch to a zoned school it was a HUGE difference. At LVA there is a fight once every 6 years or longer, at Arbor I go to lunch every day trying to see were a fight is going to happen. There is a bigger difference between a public school and a private school. Today I am going to tell what is good and what is bad about going to a public or private school.

One of the main things that are different between public and private schools is that public school is free and private schools you need to pay to get into. People think that this means private schools are better because you need to pay to get in so the teachers must be good. The fact is that teachers in private schools may not be required to have certification, and instead often have subject area expertise and an undergraduate or graduate degree in the subject they teach. On the other hand, All teachers in a public school are usually state certified or, at a minimum, working toward certification. Certification ensures that a teacher has gone through the training required by the state, which includes student teaching and coursework.

Some parents send there kids to private schools to protect them from "bad" crowds of kids who do drugs, and other things like. However, I have read form other kids who attend private and public schools that there are more troubled kids at the private schools. It seems that rich troubled kids were sent to private schools. I think that parents should send there kids to public schools and the money they would have spent on a private school put towards extra curricular activities for there kids.

Another difference between public schools and private schools is the type of students that go there. The kids at most public schools usually reflect the community. Students may be split up based on ability or interests, but in many public schools, there is a diversity of student backgrounds. In private schools the student population is determined through a selection process; all students must apply and be accepted in order to attend. Although students may be from different neighborhoods, they will probably have similar goals and interests.

I think that if you want your kid to know what the real world is like then you should send them to a public school. When I went to a magnet school I had no idea how the world really was, now that I go to a public school I have more street smart.
