There are many good arguments on both sides. However, I believe we should stay in the customary for good reasons. For starters, we are used to having the customary system surround us and we use it everyday. Also, the change would cause us lots of money to convert our signs and units to metric. We have already taught many generations of our people in customary so if we switch to metric we would have to teach everything over again and it would get quite confusing.
Many people have the customary system used all around them everyday. It is what we see on our road signs. It is what we use for measuring. It is also what we use to know how much of a liquid we have in a bottle or how much we need to pour. How many times has this matter been discussed, and yet we are still in the customary system? We just can't change from it. We are so used to it that changing to metric could have devastating effects on our everyday lives .We would have to attune to the new signs and measurements and it would be hard for us.
Also, switching to the metric would cost us a lot of money. The road signs would have to be changed. This would cost us a fortune! A fortune of about 200 million dollars! Congress has already eliminated a requirement that all road signs be in metric. This shows that the cost of changing to metric would be outstanding. No one wants to have this much money coming to them as taxes.
Another factor to look at would be having to teach the metric system to everyone. They would have to make people learn the metric when they are already used to the customary system. This would greatly confuse people. It may be useful for some measurement, but there is some trouble with temperatures in Celsius and other scenarios. It's kind of like being taught a new language, but refusing to give up your old one. It just doesn't happen. This is the same way with being taught the metric system. People don't want to be giving up using the customary system. Therefore, it would be easier just to leave it how it is and not mess with it at all.
The right way to go would be to stay with customary. Switching to the metric would change our everyday lives, cost a whole lot of money, and would be a hassle to teach it in schools. All in all, staying with the customary is a good call.
