Every student has the right to learn. They also have the right to be taught. It is a teacher’s responsibility to teach to different students. I feel that in order to be able to teach multiple students one has to use multiple teaching techniques. Teachers should use everything from technology to experimentation. Through these different techniques, students will be able to discover a love for learning. I try, with every lesson, to include visual components, tactile components, auditory components, and kinesthetic components. Through this mix, many of Gardner’s multiple intelligences are addressed.
This allows all different types of the learners the ability to succeed. The ability to achieve success, leads to the creation of a positive learning environment. I also believe in creating a safe environment where students feel free to share their thoughts and ideas with others. Through this freedom of sharing, the students will be able to not only hear their peers’ ideas but also learn from them. I also feel that a teacher should be excited to teach. I cannot expect the students to be enthusiastic to learn if I am not enthusiastic to teach them. Throughout my experience as a student, I was lucky enough to find a teacher who had a similar philosophy. It changed my outlook on school and allowed for my educational potential to blossom. My philosophy is one that is based on personal experience. As a new teacher, I use this philosophy as a base to build on. I understand that as a teacher, it is important to be flexible. I will use my experiences in the classroom to help my philosophy evolve.
