There are exceptions, but they are that, exceptions not the rule. There is more political correctness being shoved down the student's throats than there is education being taught to their minds. What classes there are become simply: “Read chapter 14 and answer questions 1 - 20, they will be on the final test.” There is no analytical thought, no encouragement of reasoning or understanding, just; “This is what you will memorize.” Sounds vaguely like 1984. As the left in the U.S. and elsewhere, notably Spain, re writes history, stifles free thought and speech, and even rewrites classic literature, the future seems ominous. The teachers' unions repeatedly bow to the left to prevent a school vouchers system so parents can choose the best schools for their children, preventing kids from attending a school where they can actually learn to be productive citizens.
Government schools perform abysmally and the system has been set up for failure. Children with superior ability are forced to remain in the "mainstream" system thus killing with boredom their desire to learn. As these exceptional children are bored they tend to be exuberant or "unruly" and the teachers, not wanting to have to deal with them say these children have ADD or ADHD and insist on medication. This brings the exceptional kids down to the level of the lowest common denominator. And so it goes, 12 years of government education at exorbitant cost to the taxpayer. And what do taxpayers and students receive for their investment? They receive an under class education and the following behaviors of crime, unwed mothers, and welfare.
