The Concern for High School Dropouts

As a society, our biggest concern is what we do that could harm the future generations. High School Dropouts are part of that concern. In this article, you will find out why it is such a concern.

In a world of cruelty, people could care less what happens in the next generation, regardless of their children being part of it. So if I were to bring up the subject of high school dropouts, the first response would be a question of why high school dropouts are such a concern in society. I would answer that high school dropouts are a very serious concern in society because it is an epidemic that occurs frequently every year and results in the suffering of both students and society.

The Epidemic and its Effects

High school dropouts is considered an epidemic spreading throughout our nation and affecting young students - a majority being Blacks, Hispanics, and Natives. According to statistics, the trends for high school dropouts increases at a substantial amount almost every year due to reforms in education. It also shows that almost 1/3 of all public high school students dropped out, including ½ of Blacks, Hispanics, and Natives. In addition, this epidemic harms both the students and society in a personal and financial manner. For example, high school dropouts will eventually become unemployed, live in poverty, become criminals, face a death penalty, become unhealthy, and be divorced. As for society, productive workers will be loss, and the costs associated with incarceration, health care, and social services for high school dropouts will increase significantly.

Why Students Dropouts

The reasons why students choose to dropout is because of lack of interest within class, lack of motivation or inspiration to work hard, personal matters to tend to, and significant academic challenges.

In Summary

In the end, the high school dropout epidemic is a serious concern in society, because of the harm it causes to the lives of students and to the function of our nation. Without a cure, young students will continue to dropout due to their disadvantages, causing more harm for the next generation.
