There are schools out there that have opened themselves up to the international market because of the declining birth rate. The students that are being accepted are not given the English instruction in Asian countries as we would accept and that is where there could be a gold mine for teachers and tutors willing to coach these students to integrate into society, or teach them at private schools There are ways of getting around the grammar requirements for a student that gotten the green light in n academic program. He or she should be evaluated on their responsibility. What this means is that the student will be more or less tested on his content and less so on the grammar, syntax and sentence diction.
In some schools the grammar might be 15 % in others 25%. A lot more emphasis has to be made on content and the ability of the student to communicate than the correct phraseology anyway as far as I am concerned however correct form is important especially in world of business and research. Scientific articles are always checked for proper grammar and form and in the business world a properly structured letter of introduction says something about the person who is looking for work.
When I began in this business I noticed that much of my material was grammar based. Small-pictured stories such in the Kernel Plus series seemed to develop along grammar lines. When the story developed so its grammar became more complicated. There was nothing wrong with this method but many marketers and educators wanted something more visual and aural along the way as an integrated approach became more prevalent.
Kernel Plus fell out of favour in the Italian teaching market and the Headway series began to predominate. Here was where tasks would be complimented to the grammar and other activities the book introduced. I still use Headway today as a reference and for its workbook activities.
Many people live in a fast paced world where they don't have time for classically styled lessons or an approach that reminds them of the rules pointed out on the blackboard. Perhaps life has become more complicated and the person wants a stress free environment that does not remind him of his classroom failings. This has caused educators to do some accommodation along the way especially because of the large demand to get foreign trained people into the working market of another country. The teacher then has come up with a mix of methodologies to allow the student to present different arguments and defend them in a group setting. Forums were induced between the speaker and his classmates to stimulate feedback and work on aural comprehension. Grammar has not been essential for those discussions to happen.
