Many people wonder about private school education. Is it better? Is it safer? While to some public schoolers, the private school world is full of mystique and wealthy scandals, private school life, is not as rich as television makes it. I attend a prestigious private school outside of Atlanta, Georgia, and it is not a dip in the lake of wealth. It is true, we have columns outside of our school and the required dress costs more than the average person spends on clothes in a six month period, but we are in no way the "upper class". Yes, I carry a designer backpack to school and our daily lunches are catered by a four star chef who went to the Cordon Bleu.
I do not deny the assumption that I live higher than most of the state. I see money wasted on luxury vehicles that will become a pile of metal within a few months. But private school education is not like living in the pages of People magazine. We have our yearly sex scandal and drug busts are quite common, but we are not like a suburbia version of LA. It is in no way true that applying to a private school means you will receive an immediate pass to whatever Ivy League you desire.
Most private schoolers find themselves at the community college, probably because they did not take advantage of the pool of brilliant teachers the school provides. So when your child asks you if they could go to private school, do not scoff and reply "No, little Bobby, they are snobs there", because it is simply not true. We are not snobs, we are just mindless children destined to live the good life due to our good name and connections.
