Why Some Parents Chose to Home School

The reason why some people chose to homeschool their children.

"Homeschooling is a grass-roots educational alternative that originates with the seed of parental love and commitment and blossoms into a lush garden of personal empowerment for child and parent" is how Linda Dobson summed up homeschooling in her book The Home- schooling Book of Answers. Every homeschooling scenario offers unique advantages for learning. The decision to homeschool empowers parents to deeply impact their child's learning and who he or she become as adults. Through homeschooling the child's love of learning can be fostered and promoted to ensure it is continued into his or her adult life.

Why some parents choose homeschooling is to provide the best possible learning environment for their child. Homeschool allows the child freedom to discover and explore topics according to his or her interests in contrast to the rigid structure required in mass education. Parents working one-on-one with their child can accommodate his or her individual needs and the opportunity to teach according to his or her interests. Homeschool gives the parents and child time to relax and enjoy learning instead of mandatory state-regulated education. The child's educational needs can be assessed by the people who know him or her the best, the parents. Academic curriculum can be individualized for the child's personal learning style. The child's learning environment becomes the real world instead of being confined to a brick-and-mortar stalemated educational institution. Learning takes place wherever the learner chooses. The public school system has forgotten that learning is meant to be a fun and enjoyable adventure.

Why some parents choose homeschooling is for religious reasons. Parents have the Constitutional guaranteed right to teach their child their principles and beliefs, instead of society's political correctness and the current educational fads. "If one thinks of the First Amendment as a foundational American liberty, the ignorance and misunderstanding of it by administrators at our nation's schools is frightening and demonstrate a profound and dangerous failure to comprehend the moral and legal basis for religious liberty," said Alan Charles Kors, president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education.
Why some parents choose homeschooling is they have become disillusioned with the "one-size-fits-all" mentality of the public school system. If children don't fit the mold of the standard student, teachers recommend
