In schools not all students can obtain laptops . Laptops are a very valuable resource of information . The school only offering them to selected students gives those students a significant educational advantage over all the other students.
The laptops would greatly increase the students ability to research information much more quickly. When covering a subject in class one could pull up a web page with infinite amounts of information on it. This would help students learn information not mentioned by the teacher or textbook. This means students get the maximum amount of education available in a school day.
Communication, This is a necessity in High school. Laptops allow you to easily communicate with your teacher via email. For example, a student has realized he didn't fully understand the teachers instructions on that days homework. Well all he/she has to do is email their teacher during lunch and learn and obtain the missed information. Students could also email their teachers homework or projects when they are completed.
The school may be worried about the cost of the laptops. This however, would be a one time fee. Computers may become damaged over the years. Then after about six years the school can simply replace them. It would be expensive but the school would have six years to save up the necessary funds. This would not put a financial strain on our schools.
The laptops are also good for everyday classroom activities. Students take notes on a daily basis, and with laptops students could take much neater notes. The students also have a less chance of losing their notes this way. Another thing students often do is go to the computer lab for computer related activities. If every student had a laptop the students wouldn't have to leave their classrooms. This would also eliminate the need for a computer lab. This means that all those computer labs being changed means more classrooms. This also means that the school wouldn't have to buy desktop computers anymore.
Some people also do not own a computer at their house. The laptops available to all students can guarantee that a student has access to the internet. Students must use the internet a lot. Students have to look up information on papers they must do for classes. Students also need to check online for homework assignments.
I am completely for laptops for all students. This would greatly increase student's participation and learning experience. Laptops to only some students is simply unfair. Why should some be deprived of educational resources that other students can have. This may be a problem for the school, but they need to look at all the benefits of having these laptops available to all students.
