My husband Ali often says “You have been born in the wrong country” and “you are more Iranian than I am”. Given that I cannot live without chai Ahmad( aromatic tea) and ghorma-sabzi he is probably right but there is more to it than that…
The heart of Persian culture is akin to my soul. It has a sense of melancholy and strength, it is always hungry for justice, has dreams for better future.
Iran survived many conquests of other nations , they all tried to subdue it by force, make it to forsake its identity but the Persian lion never really died.
Islamic revolution was the latest attempt. It failed and it is still failing, present regime currently under the leadership of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad tries to project a picture of unified Iran under Islam , strong and daring but it has never been as week as it is now.
More than 50% of Iranian population all young people are increasingly discontent with their present condition of life, oppressed and dreaming about a very different Iran in which everyone has the same chance to succeed regardless of their creed or gender.
Where its ancient past with its values of freedom and tolerance are celebrated .I am very proud of this heritage.
There was a priest in Teheran who before the revolution used to ride everywhere on a bicycle. Afterwards he was driving an expensive Mercedes Benz with the team of bodyguards he also exchanged his old wife for a few young ones…
The government supports Palestinians and Hezbollah fighters while more and more of ordinary Iranians suffer poverty. This is not justice and it cannot stand for long.
It reminds me very much of injustice suffered by polish people under the communist regime, when all the best products of the country were going to Russia, it doesn’t exist anymore.
Nothing build on bloodshed can stand the test of time as it has risen it will surely fall, so I dream on of better Iran which I can actually see. For now I am banned from it just like millions of Iranians abroad, I long together with them for a homeland I have never seen but fell in love with.
Persian lion with no doubt will roar again. We will all be able to return and rejoice.
