Yesterday I checked my E-mail and was bombarded with the usual subject titles referring to illegal Mexican immigrants, and how they are disrupting the happy lives of every non-Hispanic American. I get these E-mails almost daily from an uncle on the Caucasian side of my family (I am half Mexican). Usually I simply delete the E-mails and move on with my life, but seeing as how the future of Social Security is constantly in the news, the petition to keep illegals from receiving Social Security benefits captured my attention. I read the plea to sign the petition or at least distribute it to every person in life that I know. Curious, I scanned the list to see how many names were on the petition. Then, I saw the last name listed - not the name of my uncle, as I had presumed, but the name of one of my cousins. I almost laughed out loud. Let me elaborate...
Somehow, my cousin signed this petition, saying that he did not want any lazy, welfare-collecting illegal Mexicans to collect from a government pension that he has spent his life contributing to.
What's funny is that my cousin has never had a "real" job in his entire 38-year existence. He's been in and out of jail and prison since he was about 14 years old. In fact, he has spent more time in prison than he has out of prison and most likely he will "retire" there, since as he described it to me: ""The Joint" is no big deal - it's just 3 hots and a cot." Occasionally, he will take on odd jobs for cash so that he has money to buy beer, cigarettes and illegal substances he can abuse. I am quite certain that he has never paid income taxes in his lifetime. To put it simply, he has drained the system his entire life.
After I had a good laugh thinking about how this loser could consider adding his name to a petition to keep someone else's hands out of the government goods cookie jar, I started wondering about all the other people who had signed this petition. Who were they? What were their contributions to society? How many of them are draining the system as we speak?
In the meantime, there are millions of illegal aliens who are going to bed very early tonight, so that they can get up at 3 a.m,. while all of us are still warm in our beds, so that they can go stand on a corner somewhere, or get in a long line in some factory lobby, to wait and see if there is work available for them to do today. They will work hard, and many will still be working when we come home from our jobs at 3:30 p.m. Contrary to popular belief, most of them will not sit at home watching Telemundo all day, collecting a welfare check. Most of them will not murder or rape or steal from anyone, ever in their lives. And frankly, I'm sick and tired of these scare tactics being used to cause fear and hatred towards these people. Not to mention, as a descendant of Mexican immigrants, it insults me and my family.
It's ironic to note that according to a New York Times article, illegal aliens contributed 7 billion dollars last year to the Social Security program, a whopping 10% of the program's surplus. They also contributed 1.5 billion to Medicare. Whether they're here illegally or not, at least they pay their taxes. They are contributing a heck of a lot more than some of the lazy, no-good Americans I see draining the system every single day.
For those of you who may be worried that the illegals may actually get out the money that they've poured into the program - don't worry - most illegal aliens will go back to their own country when they get older. Illegals may actually be the saving grace to our failing Social Security system. We may have them to thank if we actually see any of that money when we retire. I say let the illegal workers stay - deport my stupid cousin.
