1. Your Jewelry
If you have too much jewelry and ornaments on your body, you’ll end up looking like you’re going for a circus show. People are not going to know where to start from when they look at you. Having too much going on with your outfit can end up making you look loud and possibly, tacky. Simple is always lovely.
2. Your Choice of Clothes
Different people have different body structures and thankfully, with the soaring number of designers scattered across the globe, we are all presented with options. It’s important to choose clothes that fit. Excessive body fat or the lack of it is not an excuse to be poorly dressed. If you have a bulging stomach, tight clothes will be less than adequate. If you’re slim, stay away from over-sized outfits.
3. Your Colours
The colour of clothes and accessories you choose are extremely important and can make or break your outfit. Always choose colours that complement your skin, eye color and everything else you’re wearing. Colour combinations should
not have the total effect of being too dull or too bright. Dull outfits should be complemented with dashes of colour while bright-coloured outfits should be toned down with dull and subtle colours so that you don’t end up looking like a rainbow.
4. Your Change of Clothes
If you can afford to, try to avoid wearing the same clothes over and over again. It may be that good-old-faithful jacket you can’t seem to do without or the white shirt that constantly rescues you in dire times. I know the feeling. Even if your budget cannot accommodate changing your clothes every season, try to stick to at least two basic items of clothing that will always stand the test of time, no matter the occasion. Jeans, jackets and skirts that come in basic colours like blue, black or brown can come in handy when you’re rushing out or confused about what to wear.
5. Your Undergarments
This is one of the most notorious offences ever committed by females. If your panty lines are constantly taking a peek at the outside world, then watch out. The beauty of your underwear is in being concealed. Take note of this especially when taking a seat.
6. Your Man
For men, the fashion rules are very straightforward. They have little or no chance of making a second impression; it’s either a hit or a miss. In a nutshell, men should stay away from light-coloured suits. Red, light brown or blue-coloured suits are a no-no. Trousers should be long enough to cover the socks.
The socks and belt should match the shoes. No belts with suspenders, please. Ties should also be long enough to reach the belt line, there’s no negotiation.
Observe these rules and you’re good to go.
