How to Wear a Woman's Biker Jacket

One of the hottest fashion trends for fall is the woman's biker jacket. Here's how to wear it with style and flair.

One of the hottest fashion trends in outerwear for fall 2008 and winter 2009 is the women's leather biker jacket. With its sleek leather exterior and smooth, sculpted lines it's a bit rock-and-roll, yet still a classic you'll reach for year after year. The hard edges of this trendy style for fall and winter can be muted and softened by pairing it with feminine clothes or enhanced by wearing it with chic, leather boots. It's a versatile piece that'll give your wardrobe a ton of style for fall. Here's how to wear a woman's biker jacket:

Make it tough

You can play up the rock-and-roll, biker chick look (or should we say biker chic) by pairing a women's leather biker jacket with form fitting jeans and a pair of dynamite leather biker boots. Although this isn't a look that will win points at the office, it's a great way to express your free spirited side when you let loose on the weekends. Don't think you have to be twenty years old to carry off this look. With the emergence of the biker baby boomer trend, this style looks good on all ages. Try pairing a woman's leather biker jacket with a pair of skinny pants and ankle boots for a trendy look. Resist the urge to wear leather pants with your leather biker jacket. Too much leather can be overkill. Mix it up and keep it unique.

Make it feminine

Yes, a leather biker jacket can enhance your femininity. The key lies in the power of contrast. Instead of playing up the leather, tough girl, rock-and-roll theme, pair your women's biker jacket with a chic, flowing floral dress and a pair of stylish boots. The look will be softly feminine with a high fashion edge. How about teaming a biker jacket with a floral blouse and pair of high-waisted pants that are so popular this fall? Add stylish ankle boots and you have the perfect look for a late afternoon lunch. Feeling more daring? Wear a woman's biker jacket with leggings and trendy ankle boots embellished with metal accents or appliqué. A woman's leather biker jacket can go from mainstream to edgy simply by changing what you wear underneath along with your shoes and accessories. This is a piece you'll want in your wardrobe this fall.

If you're not convinced you need a women's leather biker jacket this fall, pay a visit to a boutique and try one on and prepare to fall in love.

Kristie,
This is \"dangerous\"territory in the wrong hands. The biker culture so often looks harsh/hard and too overtly trying too hard to look sexy. Especially on Boomers or older folks this look is rarely well done. I featured a gorgeous Ralph Lauren jacket in my book \"Forever Cool\" (Clarkson-Potter/Random House,2007) because I believe it\'s a classic piece--but only the right person, with the right personality and figure can carry it off.. You\'re giving also some good advice here, as per the Ralph Lauren aesthetic of pairing the jacket (the fashion version of a biker jacket is softer and better fitted than the real rugged deal) with something feminine. But generally \"less is more\" holds here. Make the jacket the centerpiece and keep the other pieces with clean lines (never too tight), and as high end in quality as you can afford.(www.sherriemathieson.com)

Enjoyed this write up. I ride with the GWRRA group of goldwings...the youngest in the group n I am 47....we are attempting by doing mall shows etc. to show the public that ALL bikers or people who wear the attire are not BAD. Most of the people in our club are all doc's--nurses--school teachers---business administrators. Thanks for your part. I heard one man a retired lawyer say that there was nothing more sexy than a older woman in conservative clothing with a biker jacket over it.
