This season, fashion expresses itself through texture and shapes rather than through colour. Fall's colorscape has been described variously as muted, murky, and bleak. Grey, black, white, and red dominated the fall/winter '06 runways.
If the neutral color scheme bores you, throw in a splash of red (Nancy Reagan Republican red, I call it) which is not only a primary color but is the perfect post-Thanksgiving holiday color.
Red flats (a recurring theme during Paris Fashion Week and in editorials) in satin, patent, or velvet, capture the red zeitgeist but are highly impractical for Bradford in November. The continued presence of flats on the fall/winter runways is an encouraging note for those of us who haven't jumped on the platform/wedge bandwagon.
Spring '07 collections reflect a trend toward even higher elevation in footwear. Don't eBay those flats just yet. I can't think of a choice in footwear that more perfectly complements the prevailing purity of spring fashion: ruffles, frill, lace, babydoll-inspired dresses, whimsical patterns like polka dots, and white, the new black of the next season.
