Fashion Trends for Fall 2008

What are you going to wear this autumn? If you're having trouble then check out this handy guide. You'll see what's hot for both day and evening this fall 2008.

Looking to update your wardrobe or look this season? This is the time. Fall 2008 has so many different trends and fads that your head will spin! Yet you can create a cool look that will not only reflect the season but will make you look like a savvy fashionista!

  1. Men' s wear. This can come in the form of a hounds tooth vest or herringbone wide legged pants. All have a definite masculine look to them. You can soften it with a ruffle front blouse. This is ultra feminine and gives a nice balance to the all that masculine tailoring. Also you may want to top off the look with a fedora. This is the hat for the autumn.
  2. Librarian shoes. Those uptight lace ups are popular this autumn but they have an edge. Instead of sturdy square heels , they have sexy stilettos topping them off. They work well with the new extra wide leg trousers or pencil skirts. You can get them in leather or suede.
  3. Anything in patent leather. This could be ballet flats , pumps or even a bag. While black is usually the color of choice for this , think outside the box with cinnamon colored patent pumps or a gray patent flats. A bright colored patent clutch is the perfect work to evening accessory. It holds all your essentials but still looks good at dinners and cocktails parties afterwards. Another fun patent leather accessory is a skinny belt. This can update any outfit and give a cool vibe to boring office wear.
  4. Lace! This sexy fabric, usually reserved for formal wear and lingerie is coming on strong in the Fall of 2008. Lace shells are popular as are lace skirts. These can make the transaction to day to night easily with the right accessories. Also consider a black lace sheath (easy to make if you "re on a budget) for your evening parties or just for a fancy dinner out.
  5. Longer sweaters," It seems the short croppy boxy styles are things of past seasons. Now there is a cry for longer , slimming sweaters that hit the knee. These also come in vest form and look hip when belted. The best colors are the darker ones, like gun metals, black, eggplant and evergreen. They also dress up a simple white tee and jeans for those casual weekend dinners.
  6. Chunky jewelry. Think bold when you accessorize. Necklaces almost have a tribal organic look with huge colorful beads and stones. Also make a statement with cuffs which are back with a vengeance. In fact you can balance that little black dress with a bold Chanel like cuff for a cool evening look. Also thanks to Michelle Obama, big brooches are back. Pick one that can be worn with day and evening outfits.
  7. Purple reigns! . It's the hue of the moment whether it's that multi ruffled blouse or handbag. The color of autumn grapes ruled the runway at last spring's fall preview shows. If the color is too intense, then stick to a scarf or handbag to update your look. Also you can line your eyes with a smoky plum for a sexy effect or use a deep purple lipstick or gloss to finish off your look (just remember don't put purple eyes and lips together. If you're going for wine toned eyes then stick with barely there blush and lips. If you're opting for plum lips then choose nude eyes and little cheek color). Nails also get a shot of purple thanks to OPI's Salute to France that has variations from dusky lavender to deep prune.
  8. Smoke gets in your eyes. Literally, thanks to the trend for charcoal hued eye liner and shadow. Every make up line from Bobbie Brown to Revlon is pushing a dark , Goth inspired silver. Remember to go easy with this or you'll be rocking the raccoon look. Use a subtle medium gray lined with charcoal or maybe even navy for day. For all out night glamour, use a dark pewter dusted lightly over the lid. Rim with a sparkly gun metal colored pencil and black mascara. Do a light dusting of pink over your face and then finish with a pale pink gloss.
  9. The Bob! Every girl is rocking a variation of the Victoria Beckham Posh look for the season. You can have a blunt cut or a ragged style one with uneven ends. What's great is that the look is more versatile than any other style. You can wear it straight and sleek for boardroom meetings and then rumpled and texturized for the nighttime hours. Accessorize it with jeweled clips or stretchy headbands if you get tired of its' appeal.

This season , update your look with some of the latest trends. A few pieces, a new lipstick or hair cut and you'll fit right in with the style icons of Fall 2008!
