Atlantis. For decades, the mystery surrounding this ancient realm has baffled scientists, historians, and theorists around the world. First referenced by Plato of Athens in the time before Christ, this mysterious civilization was said to be one of the grandest nations on Earth. According to Plato, the entire nation was lost on “a single day and night” of terrible storms and the island nation was destroyed forever.
But where was Atlantis? Was it truly a supercivilization, technologically matching or even surpassing our own? Do the secrets now lost to the sea hold the answers to the pyramids, the Sphinx, the mysteries of Inca architecture, and the like? Did Atlantis once rule the world, setting colonies around the planet? Are the mysterious artifacts still standing - against all logic - all that survives of man's greatest race?
Did This Great City Ever Truly Exist?
The following is a document that will explore these questions and will show why I fully believe that Atlantis existed as the most technologically advanced civilization of its time, if not of all time. This paper shows this theory and backs it up with facts proven by scientists and explorers from around the world. It is by no means the final answer or complete answer to this great mystery. So here we go- Why Atlantis existed, where it was, and why it truly was the greatest civilization in history.
We start our tale in Egypt, where the first stories of Atlantis were said to have been told. Egypt is famous for several things, including the pyramids, the Great Pyramids at Giza, and the Sphinx. These giant stone creations have far outlived their times and provide a lasting image to the legacy of the great Egyptian pharaohs. But how - and why - were they built? For the pyramids, the answer to the second is simple enough. They were tombs, the greatest ever fashioned. We have located the mummies deep within the great structures, as well as the armies of soldiers and slaves that would accompany the dead ruler to the afterlife. But why so large? And even more of an enigma: How?
The why is somewhat easier than the how. Each successive tyrant wanted a tomb greater than the man he replaced on the throne. This doesn't quite explain why the pyramids were so large, but it gives some light to why they were built.
But the simple fact that they were so large raises many new points. The first is a simple fact: The pyramids are so large and partially crumbled that complete exploration of these giant buildings is virtually impossible today. We have no idea what secrets lay buried deep within the tunnels and passageways of the Egyptian landmarks. Great mysteries could be unlocked if only we could get to their keys - keys that may well be deep in the great tombs of the Pharaohs of Egypt.
The pyramids raise another question. How were these giant structures built? Some have raised the theory that giant scaffolds were built, creating a sort of track around the pyramids so that the giant blocks could simply be rolled along until they reached their position, and then slid into place. This theory is possible but, in my opinion, unlikely. Some of the stones used to build the pyramids, specifically the Great Pyramids, weigh in at many tons. Building wooden scaffolds capable of holding such a stone would be virtually impossible, especially considering the height that these stones were moved to. Even using slave labor, it would be difficult to the point of improbability to create a structure such as the pyramids in the life span of a single ruler.
Lastly we have the Sphinx. It is an enigma, a great mystery that no one can seem to figure out. What is the great statue? Why was it made? Why are there no entrances or exits to this creation? And, like the pyramids, how was it constructed?
While no definite answers as to why or how the Sphinx was created have surfaced, there has been one new discovery: a large chamber buried deep beneath the Sphinx, accessible by a now-collapsed tunnel from one of the nearby pyramids. Though excavation has not begun - Egyptian authorities are concerned that excavation of this chamber could cause a collapse of the entire structure - the possibility of answers lying beneath this great structure now exists. Perhaps the answers to why this structure was built and the secrets of how the great Egyptian engineering marvels were created are now within our reach. Perhaps other answers are there as well…
