Finding the Lost City

(contd.)

How? A man made hurricane is virtually impossible to create. True, but that's because we know what we're doing. We have safeguards in place to keep exactly that from happening. We're too smart to let ourselves be wiped out like Atlantis was.

So here's my great theory.

Atlantis was a great civilization on an island in the Atlantic Ocean not far from the Straight of Gibraltar. It grew and flourished on this island, becoming powerful. Since it was an island nation that worshipped the god of the sea, it focused its research on the sea. To that end, they developed the most advanced sailing ships in the world, ships capable of reaching the ends of the world. They sailed to these ends; Atlantean colonies spring up in Bermuda, Bimini, and Easter Island. Atlantean ships aided less-advanced people, like those on the aforementioned African island, in moving to a better location for living. The fact that Atlantis was situated in the given position gave it the ability to act as a trading nation. Their ships could move gold from the Inca mines via a colony in Brazil; silver from the mountains in North America through Bermuda and Bimini; Egyptian dyes and far eastern silks would come from Mediterranean ships. This would have generated enormous wealth for the Atlantean nation.

This would fit the Atlantis description: A rich nation, a peaceful nation, a seafaring nation. It would also explain Spanish explorer's reports of “white Indians” in South America - they were Atlantean colonists and traders with the Inca and Maya.

So how do the rest of the things I talked about fit in? Hang on, the roller coaster is about to start to fly.

The Atlantean engineers experimented, as all scientists do. It is said that Atlantis was built partially from a strange reddish ore that to this day has not been found. This points to some kind of an alloy - not an uncommon occurrence in the old world. The Atlantean scientists and engineers continued to experiment trying to make a better alloy - perhaps for trade, perhaps to reinforce the great sea wall, perhaps to build homes, perhaps to better equip their armies and navies for war.

The latter possibility seems to be the most logical. If the etchings on the Parthenon in Athens do indeed depict a battle between the forces of Athens and those of Atlantis, then the Atlanteans would have been dealt a blow to their pride, influence, and power by the defeat at the island of Attica. This would have led the Atlanteans to attempt to create better weapons of war to attack the city of Athens and reclaim their naval superiority.

As the Atlantean engineers experimented with metals, they made a discovery. By rubbing metal across itself, you can magnetize it. Then by simply rotating it around itself, you have created a primitive electromagnet. Not exactly what they would have been looking for, but most curious humans would want to play with their new toy. One of the cool things about electromagnets is that they can generate energy and, more importantly, they can cancel out gravity. Now that would have been very useful to a nation of traders. Today, it has very little value. We don't need to hover; we have cars and planes and giant metal ships that eliminate the need for such a device. Plus, an electromagnet on a metal plane or ship just wouldn't end well, so it's not only obsolete, it's dangerous.

But for the Atlanteans, this would have been a crowning achievement. They would have used it, obviously. It would be used to move giant stones and boulders. The Atlanteans used this device to create the first of the pyramids. Egyptian traders saw them and became interested. With great payment, Atlantean engineers would have taken their prize to the deserts and helped create the pyramids. The records of this would have been depicted in the giant structures while the true aid of the Atlanteans would have been kept from the Egyptian people so that it would not undermine the divine view of the pharaohs. Atlantean engineers would have returned to Atlantis with their device, all evidence of its use either destroyed by Egyptian rulers or hidden deep within the pyramids and beneath the Great Sphinx.

Across the ocean, the Atlanteans would have used their generator to help the Inca, Maya, and Aztec Indians in exchange for the massive amounts of gold found in those lands. This would explain how the hundred-ton stones managed to make their way up the mountains from the Urabamba River to Machu Picchu. It would also further enrich the Atlantean realm. Atlanteans on Easter Island would have created the giant heads watching to the East, watching back towards Atlantis, either it intimidate anyone coming from Peru, to mark the island as a part of the Atlantean Empire, or to remind those on the colony of their home half a world away. They would have built Stonehenge and many other landmarks, most likely for a series of reasons. First, as Plato suggests, the Atlanteans were a noble people. They would have been willing to help. Second, the people wanting to sue this electromagnetic device would have been willing to pay a lot to get the privilege to use it, further enriching Atlantis. It would have served to show the power of Atlantis and prove their dominance over the other peoples of the world. All in all, it would just make sense to use the device all over the world for their glory.
