Every culture has its own Goddess of Death. So it is safe to say that there are hundred's of icons for this Goddess. Just as every culture has a Goddess for birth, problems, anger, nature and every other aspect of life, the Goddess of Death is of utmost importance. Depending on what that culture's beliefs are, will depend on what the Goddess of Death is capable of and the character profile for her varies just as the far and wide as the cultures themselves.
In Japan, the Goddess of Death Yuki-Onne is white and thin, just like the iconic Geisha's of that culture. She personifies death by freezing. She was once married, but then betrayed and representative of a cold hearted, betrayed woman. Once scorned definitely applies to this Goddess.
The Inuit Goddess of Death Sedna, is angry, vengeful and out to cut everybody down at the knees. Fable associated with this Goddess tells that her father killed her by cutting off her fingers, then hands, then finally her arms then drowning her. She is now known to be one of the angriest Goddess's.
The Hindu Goddess of Death Kali, is one of the most famous and iconically recognized Goddess's. She is adorned with a necklace of skulls and corpse earrings. She has her widely recognized skirt of several arms, posed in Hindu prayer symbols. She is known for being a great warrior and dancing. She would dance people right to their death. She is a more complicated Goddess, as she is acting more on fun and results, as opposed to anger driven and impulsivity. You will dance with this Goddess right off a cliff and you won't even see it coming.
The next most famous Goddess of Death Hecate, the Greek Goddess of the Underworld. She is also the Goddess of Night and Poisons, for her favored method of killing is by using poison. Most don't have a dual title, but this very powerful Goddess of Death does. This is a the only Goddess that is so powerful that she is known to be more powerful than the God of her culture Hades himself. You don't want to mess with this Goddess, she will hurt you in ways you never imagined.
There are so many Goddess of Death that it could and has been a top of scholarly thesis. What each Goddess represents to that culture and of that culture is very telling. If a study is conducted about a culture, studying its religious beliefs, and its iconic God and Goddess for each facet of its culture are very important and telling of the culture itself. If you want to analyze the ways of the people, always look to the woman in charge of bringing them to their final moments.
