Halloween Superstitions

Halloween superstitions vary between countries but some superstitions have been handed down from the Druidic religions of the Ancient Britons.

I don't suppose that any of these superstitions are true, but it might be fun to try them out.

  1. All journeys by foot, horse, or vehicle must be ended before darkness falls on All Hallows Eve, or the traveler will not reach his destination. If this is not possible then the traveler should carry a piece of bread sprinkled with salt in his pocket. The salt will keep the witches away.
  2. If a young maiden wishes to know which one of her suitors will be her husband, she should take one hazelnut for each of them and arrange them in the hearth in front of the fire on Halloween. If the nut shrivels up, so will the relationship but if it bursts from the shell the relationship will flourish.
  3. Halloween is the only night that the magic apple trick will reveal the initial of your true love, according to superstition. Cut an apple through the middle to expose the star shaped core and eat it as you look into a mirror. The face of your true love will appear before you.
  4. If you prefer to peel your apple, then peel it carefully so that the peel is in one long strand. Then throw the peel over your shoulder and it will land on the floor in the shape of an initial. This letter is the initial of your true love.
  5. Placing an apple under your pillow on Halloween will make you dream of your true love.
  6. Light a candle and put it before a mirror. Comb your hair as you stare into the mirror and the face of your true love will appear over your left shoulder. Of course, this only works on Halloween.

Remember, though, they only work on Halloween.

Hope it works for you Onflame.LOL. I wouldn't fancy sleeping with an apple under my pillow though.
