The Honey Island Swamp is surrounded by many mysteries as well as legends. It also has many creatures that live deep within the swamp. I spent over five months in the area after Hurricane Katrina; during which time I was investigating reports of a strange creature called the “Honey Island Swamp Monster”. My group and I were also investigating the strange lights that had been appearing over the swamp in the night sky.
The swamp has some very big snakes; here's a picture of one below.

It also has some other creatures of interest as well; I will showcase some of them throughout this article as I go along. Although our investigation of sightings concerning the Swamp Monster came up empty it was not a waste of time.
Below are some artist drawings of the swamp creature and what it has been reported to look like by some that have claimed to have seen it up close and personal. It is not up to me to decide or to judge them as false sightings. It has been my experience over the course of investigating sightings of creatures and UFO that you don't always catch what you're hoping to get. Sometimes we get lucky by being in the right place at the right time.

Both the drawings of the Honey Island Swamp Creature as reported by many remind me of “Big Foot”. The next picture shows a complete family of these creatures that have been sighted by many a hunter while in the swamp hunting for deer and wild pigs.
Can all the accounts of this creatures existence be consider false? We know that some reports almost always prove to be false but some also ring true as well. On day two of our investigation, we heard several unearthly like screams coming from somewhere deep inside the swamp. We were not able to get a clear sighting of what had been making the noises as it was very dark and whatever was raising the commotion manage to stay well out of range of our flashlights.

Some say the creatures remind them of a family of wookie that you all may have seen in “Star Wars” the movie. You can be the judge of this. I have decided; until we are able to prove or disprove the reported sightings and close encounters with these alleged creatures, I for one plan to keep an open mind.
Day three we made some interesting discoveries concerning the wildlife that dwell in the swamp. We left a lot earlier as I was hoping to find tracks in the area that the noise had been coming from. This would allow me to make a better assessment of the type of creature that was producing the horrible unearthly screams the night before.
We encountered a family of owls much like the one in this image below. So I have decided to enter it in my article.

We came across several Gators as we made our way deeper into the swamp. They are very unpredictable so we had to proceed with great caution as we carefully made our way closer to where the noise had been coming from.

We discovered as we got closer to the area the noise had been coming from that the moss that hung on some of the trees actually had phosphorous content to it.

This we felt would explain the eerie glow that we notice coming from the area the night before. It had been mentioned by one of the three group members on the night we heard the screaming sounds. I wrote it down in my journal for investigation at a later date as it interested me.
We flushed out a Wild Boar or two from the thick underbrush as we pushed our way in closer to the area the sounds had been coming from. Just for clarification reasons, I feel it only fair to mention that there's also wild pigs in the swamp as well. Years ago parts of the swamp were inhabited by natives of the area and the “tame pigs” that were left behind begin breeding with the wild bores.
However, the ones we disturbed were actually wild bore. We also had to watch out for poisonous spiders that lived in the Cyprus trees as well. They make their webs high up in the foliage and in the bark of the trees.

This Black Widow spider can also be found in the trees and on the ground in the Honey Island Swamp.

The next spider is not considered to be poisonous but it can also be found in the Honey Island Swamp Lands. The Orb Weaver builds its web in the trees as well.
