The of which how the goat become a Chinese zodiac is actually similar to a western legend of a god(forgot his name) steal fire and gave it to the human world.
The legend begins at a very long time ago when the humans were just created. The humans do not have the knowledge nor the seeds to grow crops. So they have to feed on grass or wild vegetables which can often be poisonous.(Eating animal were forbidden). One day a holy goat comes down from the heaven and descended to the human world. The holy goat discovered the humans are lacking nutrition; many of them are tired and depressed. When the holy goat asks, it discovered the humans do not plant crops, in fact, they do not even know what crops are! The holy goat felt pity for them and promised the humans it will bring some crop seeds the next time it comes down again.
When the holy goat comes back to heaven, he discovered the reason the human world does not have crops is because the supreme god(sort like Zeus in Greek) is very cheap. He does not want to share the crops with the humans. The holy goat then decided to steal some seeds from heaven. It waited until the guardian was asleep and stole five kinds of seeds in his mouth. It quickly comes down to the human world, the humans are curious when they heard the holy goat have brought them crop seeds so many of them come to see. The holy goat gave the seeds to the humans and taught them the knowledge on how to plant it, and then it returns to heaven.
The humans planted the seeds and the crops started to grow. When the humans are about to harvest the crops, the humans noticed all the crops have some resemblances of a goat. After the harvest, the humans started a huge festival thanking the holy goat. The tradition continued until today.
The festival has caught the supreme god’s attention, and then he remembered crops started to appear in the human world. The supreme god put two and two together, immediately he knows the holy goat brought the seeds to the human world. The supreme god was furious at the holy goat, he ordered the executioner to execute the holy goat, he also ordered the humans to eat the goat meat.
At the second year after the holy goat died, a strange thing happened, at the spot where the holy goat is executed, first grass started to grow, then the kids also started to sprout out of the ground. The goat family then started to grow in the human world. They eat grass to live, donate their meat and milk to the humans. The humans wanted to thank the holy goat, so they celebrated every year to honor the holy goat.
When the humans heard the supreme god is going to choose 12 animals to be the Chinese zodiacs. All humans suggest the goat to be one of the Chinese zodiacs. Although the supreme god is still angry, but he cannot ignore the suggestions every human made, so he finally agreed to let the goat to become a Chinese zodiac.
