Vampires originate from Transylvania due to the fact that the first vampire to be known was from Transylvania. His name was Count Dracula. Transylvania is in the country of Romania. Vampires were discovered centuries ago therefore word has spread that they are very dangerous creatures.
A vampire's appearance is very much like a human however the behavior is totally different. Vampires have long pointed fangs that they use to suck out blood. According to myth, vampires can turn into bats. Vampires are also thought to have very pale faces as if they were extremely ill. They hate the sunshine and as a result they come out at night. If you also shoot a silver bullet at a vampire consequently it will die. Garlic is also an object that you can use to scare it away.
In the olden days people used to get buried alive especially in America because the technology wasn't very good. This may also be a solution to where the myth came from. A lady from Indianapolis was buried alive. Six doctors had declared her to be dead. Her brother was refusing to believe this and kept trying to prove that she was actually still alive. When it was her funeral, her brother removed her jaw strap. She then started to move her lips indicating that she was still alive. She may have become a vampire if the jaw strap wasn't opened.
Another theory is that before beggars used to sleep in coffins. They used to live there because they were in search for a place for the night and for some food. A man who used to guard a graveyard at night had heard a noise. He had approached the place where the noise was with his dog. When he opened the coffin he saw a man in there and then all of them screamed. They were all alarmed that even the dog ran away in the opposite direction to where the man went.
I think that the myth came partly from the fact that some bats can suck people's blood and people think that vampires can turn into bats and also because of the story of the beggar and the guard.
