By providing the excuse they are legitimizing the opinions of those who are homophobic by giving themselves special clemency, as if for an action which would normally warrant punishment. Thusly this aspect is entirely counter productive to their argument. Conversely they should be advocating a universal acceptance of all sexuality in that there is no sexual identity at all. They should be in fact taking a lesson from the conservatives when it comes to matters of race, and adopting a similar color blind, policy. Meaning it makes no difference, and that the immorality of the action; choice or not is an illegitimate, and unwarranted proposition by the majority which should be rejected. Now yes certain groups of gays have adopted, and embraced this concept, but the majority remain ignorant to this notion altogether.
Additionally though lets take this a step further and link it to the notion of gay pride which is a huge thing to many of those in the gay community, or at least its more vocal members. Gay pride is first of all conflicting with the idea that this is not a choice. Seeing as how one can be proud of a choice, or the results of a decision, they can not however be proud of something which is outside of their control. Pride is a self recognition of achievement in something you are a part of. For example pride in ones nation is, a legitimate pride; due to the fact that the nation is under your, and your fellow citizen's control thusly its actions are the result of your actions some way.
However in the case of homosexuality this result of being gay is not even indirectly a result of their doing therefore it can't possibly be an achievement on the part of the self, and thusly there is nothing to be prideful of. This is in a sense false pride, and it is actually very similar to the motivations of ethnic nationalism, and racism; in that an uncontrollable aspect of living by their admission is something to be falsely proud of. To be gay and to be proud of it is no different than a white person to be white and proud of that, or a German to be a German and proud of that. It is a self delusion, a self distinction of false importance which can justify acts against the other, or those who you are not proud of. This is the same motivation, which fuels the hatred that leads to humanity's worst of acts, genocide. Therefore if we are to accept the assumption that it is not a choice, but that it is in fact a product of chance then we are also to accept that those who are not gay under this doctrine are inherently inferior through the eyes of the gay pride activist because they lack the quality of being gay, or at the very least are unworthy of the gay pride activist's pride. Meaning on some level pride in sexuality is a source of oppression.
However, I am not suggesting that they be shamed, only that they be indifferent to their sexuality. Additionally one other aspect of the gay pride movement is that it is a response to societal repression in the past, meaning it was created in response to this; thus an aspect of gay pride is that it is inherently opposed to oppression based on the sexuality of an individual. However, it is simultaneously generating the same sentiment which oppresses people based on that very factor. Seeing as how their pride in their own sexuality is a pronouncement of their own superiority it is thusly an endorsement of the converse which is a declaration of inferiority on the part of those who are non homosexual; making such a pronouncement an act of oppression.
Thusly the only way for the community itself to remain true to its own word would be to simply stop recognizing sexuality as an aspect of difference, and literally ceasing to debate anything having to do with sexuality. In doing so they would instead recognize a universalist position and simply cease to see a difference. This is not mulitist view, where each of the different groups, gay lesbian straight etcetera is recognized it is literally the elimination of any distinction on the physiological level, saying it makes absolutely no difference one way or another, no pride, nor shame, only truth.
