Why Gay Marriage Should be Allowed

Why gay marriage should be allowed and Politicians and Religions should open their minds and allow new ideas.

Okay so today I'm gonna tell you my thoughts on gay marriage. Same-sex marriage seems to be the least of people's worries. At least, it should be. Who cares who marries who? The church apparently, many religions find it immoral. You know what? It's about time they changed their opinions, and tolerate it if that's what some people want to do. The churches rules aren't set in stone, are they? I mean no one follows all of them, not even the church leaders. They think God doesn't like Gay people, but it's okay to have sex with an altar boy. Things aren't what they used to be when churches first came into existence. Some things have changed, and the least the church could do is alter it to go along with the changes going on. Like in Pirates of the Caribbean, it's more like guidelines than actual rules.

As for politicians what the hell? Why don't they focus on more important things, like the economy for instance, which seems to be going to shit, as well as other things that actually matter. For some people, same-sex marriage is a choice and other people have no right to decide things for you and deny you the right to do something.

Churches and American government are separate from each other, as stated in the first amendment. One reason for people being against same-sex marriage is for the benefits it would provide, and the opposition thinks they're just trying to get out of paying more money for taxes. Five countries allow same-sex marriage, as do six US states and parts of two other US states. All of the other states in the US prohibit same-sex marriage through the amendment “Defense of Marriage.”

Civil Union is a ceremony between same-sex people which allows them to have certain things that regular marriages have. What they do get is respect of property, adoption, insurance, wrongful death, hospital visitation and insurance and state income

tax laws. The definition of marriage is the legal union of a man and a woman as husband and wife. It is also known as a common-law marriage. The last definition: Union between two people having the customary but usually not the legal force of marriage a.k.a. same-sex marriage.

If people are starting to be all right with same-sex marriage, then why have only six states allowed it? Why haven't others changed it? In Maryland, same-sex residents can adopt children and be protected from discrimination, and a new law requires insurance companies to provide health benefits to them, as long as the employers allow it. Voters in eleven states have approved anti-same-sex marriage amendments, through double-digit numbers.

There are not very many reasons for opposition. It mostly has to do with taxes, and politicians religious viewpoints. It could also just be that a lot of people are uncomfortable with the idea of allowing same-sex marriage, so therefore are trying to find every little thing to try and make it seem bad and immoral.

The theological view, or the view of some religions, is that same-sex marriage is immoral and wrong. But there are some religions and groups of people that don't think so. In 1999, the Quakers adopted Affirmation and Reconciliation, which states: “Love has many shapes and colors and is not finite. It can not be measured or defined in terms of sexual orientation.” This would mean that they would most likely be fine with same-sex marriage, since they said it didn't matter what "sexual orientation" someone is. Another example is Buddhism, which not only accepts but respects homosexuality and same-sex marriage. They believe homosexuality shouldn't be discriminated against, but should deserve all rights and dignity because they are of the human race. And since they

are humans with different preferences, they shouldn't be discriminated against. It's their choice of how they want to live, and people shouldn't shun them for that. The last example is the Anglican church of Canada approved same-sex marriage. It only asked that priests approach the bishop to ask permission for the blessing, and then should be approved by the parish as well. Which seems pretty reasonable, and it shouldn't be hard for some churches of other places to adopt the same policy.

The Bible makes references about same-sex marriage that leads people to believe that it shouldn't be allowed because it is wrong and immoral. “But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female” (Mark 10:6). This seems to be interpreted that Male and females should be together if it was like that from the beginning of the creation of the human race. And since it states man and woman, and doesn't say anything else, it's assumed that that is the only right paring, and nothing outside of that should be allowed.
