Feel like getting into rock music, or are already into it and just want to get to know some more bands. You should definitely check out the following.
You should start by taking a gander at the rock legend by the name of "James Marshal Hendrix" otherwise known as "Jimi Hendrix". He shaped the rock scene with the use of distortion, and without him rock music would not be what it has been over the last few decades. Some awesome songs of his would be Purple haze, Come on (let the good times roll), foxy lady and basically everything from his Woodstock album. This guy is a must see for all rockers.

Other great bands that a full of Awesome Riffs extended guitar solos and far out lyrics include such greats as Led Zeppelin who composed, what some would say as "the worlds greatest rock song" and some others would say as "the worlds greatest song" this song goes by the name of Stairway to Heaven. They have many other great songs like black dog, immigration song, heartbreaker, the rover, No quarter plus many many more, in my opinion all of there songs are great, and they come under my top 3 bands.
Pink Floyd was also another great band that you should defiantly check out. Dave Gilmour’s guitar solos are played from the heart and delivered greatly, the lyrics fit and everything about them was great. They experimented with a lot of stuff like trying to create music of the future with such songs as "on the run" but some of there more popular songs would be Another brick in the wall part 2, Comfortably numb, Wish you were here, and Money, Also check out Hey You.

Lynyrd Skynyrd are a bunch of southern rockers who make an awesome band, make sure you check them out, you'll probably know them from "sweet home Alabama", but they have many other great songs like free bird, simple man, that smell and more.
Delving a little more onwards; AC/DC are a good band with hits such as Thunder struck, Highway to hell and Back in Black, you should try these out to see if its your thing. See other great songs from them like Safe in New York City, Money talks and Dirty Deeds.
Guns and Roses are another nice band loved by many still today. Check out there wide variety of hits such as Sweet Child of mine, Welcome to the jungle, November rain, Knocking on heavens door and Songs sung by the lead guitarist like Mr. Brownstone and Its so easy. If they're your sort of thing defiantly check out there "appetite for destruction" album and there greatest hits.

Then we come to Nirvana personally there not my thing but you either hate it or love it, they shaped a new generation of music. The band split up after the lead singer "Kurt Cobain" blew his head off with a shotgun, but you should check them out if you want, there greatest hit Smells like teen spirit which is claimed to best the best rock song in the world but a lot would disagree on that one including myself. Check out their Nevermind album, if they’re your cup of tea.
Pearl Jam is another great band who has recently made a comeback with the song worldwide suicide. Some of there older hits include Jeremy; Once, Alive, Better man, Daughter and many more. You should have a view of them they're great.

And then there’s Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix’s follow up a great artist who has been around for Hendrix’s time and is still going strong today. With greatest hits such as Wonderful tonight, Tears in heaven and White room which was with a band called cream that he was in, he has so many great songs that i can't list them all, try doing a Google on him.
For that more metal scene you'd have to go with Metallica, with their heavy riffs, extended guitar solos and wicked vocals you can't go wrong (just try to listen to some songs before or on the black album) there most famous songs would be Enter Sandman, Nothing else matters, One and The unforgiven but some fan favorites would be Master of puppets, Ride the lightning, Blackened and others before Metallica took there step into mainstream, e.g. The Black album and after.

Well there are a few rock bands that should get you started, also check out Motor head, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Allman Brothers band, Aerosmith, ZZ top, Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Rolling Stones. There are probably others I forgot to list but I hope you enjoy listening and become of a fan of the greatest genre out, Rock.
