The Flag Burning Amendment

The Flag burning amendment has been tried 6 times, the House has passed the amendment all 6 times.

The Senate has never passed it. This is a disgrace. The First Amendment protects speech not vandalism, and therefore the amendment should have been passed the first time. This amendment is one line saying “congress shall have the power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States”.

The last this amendment was tried was in 2000 when it failed in a 63-37 vote in favor of the amendment but it was still 3 short of the two-thirds needed . On June 22nd the flag burning amendment will be tried again.

I believe that some people take this matter as a joke, on 7-22-1997 a state department debate broadcasted threw News Briefing Network was opened up this debate by saying “I love your hat,” while looking at the president. I believe that the Flag Burning Amendment should be passed, and I wouldn't know one reason why you shouldn't either.

They won't pass it because this is a FREE country, if we hate this country than we should be able to burn the flag as our opinion to salute it in our own way. Thats like saying that you can't burn a book that you dislike in the same, in-voluntary of course, manner. It is to be human to speak, and speak what is on your mind and then act on it if pushed, and the government has certainly been pushing hard. Thats a lot of reasons, why we shouldn't so don't say you don't know any, that is only, YOUR opinion out of a lot of people in this country. Not that it matters anymore than mine.
