To be exact it was February 12, 1809. Abe's first memories were in his Knob Creek house. There, he was somewhat educated. He read any book he could find no matter how bad it looked.
In 1818, his mother, Nancy, died. We all know how tough it would be to grow up without a mother. To take Mrs. Lincoln's role as mother, Thomas Lincoln married Sarah Johnston.
Ten years later, Abraham's sister, Sarah, died. Even though this was the only biological sister Abe had, he still had his step-brother Allen. Together they would have many adventures, such as going down to New Orleans for Allen's father.
In 1831, Abe moved to New Salem. There he worked as a sales clerk in a small store. In his spare time he loved to wrestle and join in city debates. In fact, he got so good at debating and politics that he ran for legislature not one but two times. The second time around he didn't win, but he was elected to the House of Representatives. After this political experience, he self taught himself law. After a few years of studying hard he past the final exam and became a lawyer.
This just goes to show the world that you don't have to grow up rich to become important. Abraham is one of the best examples because he was poor, self taught, yet very successful. For all of you people that are struggling in this world, just remember "Old Abe," and you just might become the next president of the United States Of America!
