Did The History Channel really claim George Washington America 's first warrior in its television movie Washington the Warrior? Really? Truly? Or, according to a book that can be purchased at Amazon.com calling John Paul Jones America 's First Sea Warrior?
When is American history going to become an authentic history? Are we still going to teach that Christopher Columbus discovered the New World ? So who discovered Africa ?
When are we going to teach the true history and this nation and it's firsts? When are we going to learn who is Tatanka Yotanka?
When are we going to learn about the First Nations?
Not just researching on the web, but in our true authentic history books, our true authentic anthologies of American Literature, including the literatures of the First Nations, and in our true authentic American Movies including the movies of the First Nations?
Native Americans are the firsts in American history--not Europeans, not Africans, but Native Americans. Not Latinos, not Asians. Everybody else is an immigrant. When the great immigrant rallies took place on April 10, 2006 throughout the country, certainly some of the orators stated we're all immigrants.
Even at some point in their history the Native Americans immigrated from somewhere to Turtle Island .
In Oprah famous television salute to certain African American heroines, there's a poem by Pearl Cleage in which the younguns quote, "We call their names." Let us learn to call the names of these Native Peoples, these first Peoples, not the Washingtons and Jeffersons and even the Sally Hemmings and Diana Rosses, but these Peoples:
