One of the first taxes imposed by the British Parliament was commonly known as the Stamp Act. It required American Colonists to pay fees on all kinds of printed document: legal documents, licenses, newspaper, pamphlets, diplomas, and playing cards and that was unconstitutional and the colonists got angry at them.
The colonists protested the Stamp Act and boycotted British imports. In response, Parliament repealed the Stamp Act in 1776. The British made a new act called the Declaratory Act. It said that the British Parliament had the power to make new rules and to bind the colonies and American Colonists. That act made the colonists angrier.
In 1767 Parliament made a new act called Townshend Act. It required them to pay taxes on items such as: tea, paints, glass, ink. The colonists got angrier and angrier and they refused to buy British imports. The British got angry with them too.
Later in 1774 in Philadelphia colonial leaders called for the meeting of a Continental Congress. In that congress the colonists wanted their own government and own rules but the British wanted to rule and they didn't agree with them.
The colonists were very angry with British because the British didn't want to give them freedom and they wanted to rule them. The colonists didn't want that and they didn't like those unconstitutional acts that the British made. They wanted to fight for their freedom and the war broke out in April 1775.
