The egyptian would define their way of life as being very highly regarded. They are very family oriented and are well respecting of children and the child's mind. Slaves and servants were there to help them threw their everyday lives. If a couple had no children it was not uncommon for them to ask the gods and goddesses for help. Although women were expected to obey their husbands they were equally regarded and treated. They had the legal right to participate in business deals, own land, and were expected to represent themselves in court cases. Young boys were taught a trade or craft while young girls worked and recieved their taining at home with their mothers.
Children were expected to take care of their elderly children. Upon the death of paretns, the sons inherited the land, while daughters inherited the household goods. Marriage was something very common and accord at a very young age. Peasant girls usually were married around the age of 12 and the boys were a few years older than the girls. Girls that were from more wealthy families were granted a few more years of childhood before they were expected to be married and raise families. The marriage was arranged by parents of the children although some families would allow children to chose their own mate. There was a pre-nuptial agreement that took place between the couple incase of any discrepencies. Although not common, divorce was an option.
If a husband treated his wife poorly she could go to her family for help. The wife is given sole custody of the children if the divorce takes place. Cooking was done in a clay oven as well as open fireovens. Wood was used for fuel even though it was scarce. Storage jars, bowls, pots, pans, ladles, sieves, and dishes were made of clay and used in everyday life when it came to cooking and preparing food. Beer was the most popular beverage which was made of barley. Women made their own bread as well as most other foods from scratch. Egyptian clothing styles did not change much throughout ancient times. Clothes were usually made of linens ranging from coarse to fine textures. Men usually wore a short skirt called a kilt. Women wore straight fitting dresses held up by straps.
Children usually ran around in the nude during summer months while in winter they were wrapped in cloth. Long robes were commonly placed over the kilt on more wealthier men. The more decorative the kilt or robes the more money the person had. This was very evident throughout the times. Egyptian entertainment consisted of mostly hanging out/around the Nile River. The Nile River offered a place to go fishing, river boating, swimming, hunting, and playing different water related games that the children made up. Hunting in the desert was also another great way of passing the time.
Extravagant parties were held by noblemen in Egypt. They consisted of music, instruments, board games, and tons of wonderful foods. Egyptian culture overall was very fun. The women were rarely mistreated and crime was not something that took place often.
The Egyptians were extravagant in their celebrations as well as their religious believes; however, they were more than willing to have a barley beer or entertain themselves using the Nile River.
