Compare Greek Gods/Goddesses to humans. How are they explained in stories to be like and not like humans?
The Greek Gods and Goddesses were very similar to humans, they fought, they had children, they had hearts, and feelings. The Greek Gods and Goddesses also had social lives and had a human body. However, unlike humans, the Greek Gods and Goddesses had powers and lived on Mt. Olympus. Also the Greek Gods and Goddesses were immortal.
How did the geography of Greece and the scarcity of resources affect where ancient Greeks settled and used their land?
Greek's geography is about 80% mountains, making settlement and land use at a very low level compared to most other ancient societies. Settlement had to be done in the valleys between mountains, forcing the Greek settlers to make separate city-states, even though they are of one people. This caused the people to call themselves based on what city-state they are from. Also, living in a very mountainous area caused them to have very low amounts of crops each year, however the Greeks, being smart people, were inspired to build ships and set out to the sea.
How does our form of government in the United States compare to that of ancient Greece?
List any similarities and/or differences you can find.
A) Athens vs. America
Athens invented the democratic government, of which America is based off of today. Slaves were allowed in Athens, unlike America today. Also, in Athens, women could not vote unlike in America women can. In Athens, they had a Direct Democracy while in America today, we have a Representative Government.
B) Sparta vs. America
Sparta's government was changing many times, form monarchy to oligarchy to democracy, while America has been a democracy its whole history. In Sparta, poor were often chosen to lead the democratic government because they were easily bribed, while in America today, our presidents are chosen because they would do a fine job leading the country.
