Crime in the middle ages was very different
from crime today. As the human race grows, so does technology. Therefore 500 years ago people did not have things like computers but now almost everyone has computers and some people commit crimes like computer piracy.
In the middle ages the two most common of crime was theft and murder. People used weapons like swords and daggers to kill with.People usually stole rare goods, food and crops.
The punishments for some of these crimes could be brutal. They could cut your ear off and leave it hanging as well as your hand, finger or thumb. These were not very nice.
Some of the punishments were absolutely stupid and they did not realistically solve the problem of the person being innocent or guilty. One of the punishments was to bake a cake and for the suspect or person who committed the crime to eat it. It was not hat simple. If the person choked they were guilty. If they ate it and didn't choke then they were innocent. The judgments in the middle ages obviously were not very good or reliable.
Others included throwing people into rivers after they had been tied up. If they came up for air then they were guilty, if they drowned then they were innocent.
Today judgment is very different to what it was back then and it is much more reliable and sophisticated.
