Cold War Essay Help Cuban Missile Crisis

Essay help guide line model answer for cold war Cuban missile crisis.

The Cuban missile crisis was a threat to world peace because IBCM's were very close to launch. This came about when the Russians started to build missile sites on Cuba. They were allowed to do this because the Russians and Khrushchev gave the Cubans economic aid. This was really bad for the Americans because if the Russians had missile bases on Cuba then the Russians wouldn't have to use ICBM's they could use missiles that could fire straight at America because Cuba was only 90 miles off the coast of America the Americans obviously did not like this and set up a naval blockade to stop the Russian missile ships from reaching Cuba and told them to dismantle the missiles. He also had all 156 nuclear missiles readied to fire. Khrushchev called the blockade "American aggression" and said he would go through the blockade. A nuclear war was very close at this time so Khrushchev turned the ships back. Khrushchev destroyed the missile sites in return that the Americans stopped encouraging Castro's enemies or interfering in Cuba at all.

The U-2 crisis was not as big a threat to world peace as the Cuban missile crisis. The Americans developed a plane called theU-2.It was a spy

plane designed to take pictures of Russian missile sites and military bases. Most of what the Americans knew about the USSR was from the U-2 spy planes. A summit meeting was arranged in Paris with Khrushchev (USSR leader) to try and end the cold war on the 16th may 1960.But on the 1st of may that year only 15 days until the summit the Russians shot down a U-2 plane the pilot Gary powers failed to press the self-destruct button and his and the u-2 fell in to Russian hands. Gary powers confessed every thing. But the Russians did no reveal much about what they found and when Eisenhower (US president) was questioned about this he said it was a weather plane. But by saying that he had unwittingly dug him self into a hole. After he had said that Khrushchev then revealed that he had the plane and Gary powers. He then demanded an apology from the United States. When Eisenhower refused Khrushchev gave him one last chance and when he refused again Khrushchev stormed out of the Paris summit. This was not really threat to world peace more of a prolonging of the cold war.
