Cro-Magnon Man

In the development of man over thousands of years, there was a time when he lived in caves. Probably the most interesting of the cave dwellers was Cro-Magnon man. He lived in Europe at the end of the Ice Age.

He is called Cro-Magnon man simply because the first remains of these cave dwellers were found at a spot called Cro-Magnon in southern Europe.

Cro-Magnon man lived in very rough times, surrounded by wild beasts. But despite this, they time to draw excellent pictures on the walls of their caves. These pictures can still be seen and they are admired for their skill and beauty.

Cro-Magnon people had a well-developed social life. They lived in families and since they hunted in groups, they must also have lived in tribes.

Gradually they developed better stone tools and new weapons. They learned to carve spearheads and harpoons from horn or bone. Women learned to cure skins and sew them into garments with needles made of bone. So Cro-Magnon man was very intelligent and reached quite a high stage of development.
