The basic idea was to paint ships with geometric shapes in contrasting colors to make it hard for the enemy to see which way the ships were heading and how fast they were going.

Every British ship had a different design and they were painted by mainly women artists. Then they were scaled up and put onto the ships. This idea was first tested on small wooden boats and they were looked at by people in a studio through a periscope.

The idea of this type of camouflage had never been used until world war one. Dazzle was used until the end of world war two. But with today's modern technology the idea would be useless because we have heat seeking missiles and other weapons. The
camouflage didn't work as well as they had hoped but did work well in some cases. All in all the idea was good for the time but not so good for modern day use.
