The years of reconstruction started after the civil war as won by the union against the confederacy. Reconstruction lasted from 1865 through to 1877.Reconstruction was the north's plan to rebuild the south. Amendments Thirteen, Fourteen and Fifteen were issued during the reconstructive period of time. Those amendments made the slaves have rights and citizenships.
During reconstruction there were many terrorist groups against the slaves being set free in the country. Two of the most notorious groups were the famous “K.K.K” (Ku Klux Klan) and “The White League“. The Terrorist groups formed in beliefs that African-Americans should not be freed because the southerners were trying to get things how they used to be before the civil war.
The Three Amendments that were proposed during the period of reconstruction were the thirteenth amendment, fourteenth amendment and the fifteenth amendment. These amendments stated that the African-American slaves were now free ;(Freedmen).The Thirteenth amendment declared that slavery was no longer allowed unless by involuntary solitude (Jail).The Fourteenth amendment gave new citizens of the country rights and If they were born here they have automatic rights as a citizen of the United States of America. Also The Fifteenth amendment stated that all men equal were allowed to vote in electoral ballots.
During reconstruction the southern states tried to get their southern region back to the way it was before the civil war by setting similar rules like the terrorist groups to get it back the way it was. Soon after the Black Codes were introduced. By the mid-end of reconstruction the southern states were slowly regaining their political power. When reconstruction was completed the government of the south was restored and the citizenship rights of the freemen were declined by the south. After was the Plessy vs. Ferguson court case which started the Jim Crow Laws which declared that racial segregation is to be allowed. This was known as “The Failure Or Reconstruction”
