Famous WWII Airplanes, and classified Jets.
The p-51 mustang
The possibly most famous World war II Airplane ever to be manufactured would be the P-51 mustang, it comes in several different types for example, the p-51c mustang had a more flat canopy for the cockpit, and it gave less visibility, But, then, they invented the p-51d mustang, it has a Bubble canopy design, and it gave all-around view for the pilot. The p-51 mustang also had a large fuel tank and the ability to carry drop tanks. Drop tanks are useful, detachable fuel tanks that can connect to the lower wing, or the belly of the aircraft.
The ME-109
The German fighter equivalent to the p-51 mustang, it was the one of the only fighters that was best capable for shooting down a p-51 mustang, but it carried less fuel, and had slightly less maneuverability in combat, thought in my opinion was more well armed than the p-51..
The ME-190
The other fighter capable of taking on a p-51 was the ME-190, it had less armament than the ME-109 but was faster, and more maneuverable.
The p-47 Thunderbolt
This is the plane that was later upgraded into the p-51 mustang, but this is much heavier, contains the same engine, well armored, well armed, and is basically an air tank. It had a self sealing bladder for its fuel tanks, and could last a long time in the air, but consumed a lot of fuel to sustain its heavy weight in mid-air.
The p-38 lightning
The p-38 lightning is the upgraded version of the twin mustang, which basically, is two p-51 mustang's put together. This large two engine plane could pull gliders, to conserve fuel money for other things. It had 4 30 caliber guns on it's nose, and was able to fly faster than a p-51 mustang, but it was less maneuverable.
The ME-262
The first real and working jet ever created, and also the first German jet ever created, is poorly armed and mostly used for reconnaissance. It could out run almost every plane, and then some.
The ME-236
The ME-236 was a classified experimental jet. It had two 20 caliber guns on it and could only carry 60 rounds, in my opinion it was a pathetic little thing, but it could reach speeds of 500 mph!! Most tests resulted in the death of the pilot.
The V-1 flying bomb
The V-1 flying bomb was basically a crude cruse missile, The Germans would fill it with only the amount of gas necessary to get to it's target, and was then launched, after it ran out of fuel, it would drop on it's target…..sometimes. Simple winds could blow it off course so it wasn't a very reliable weapon.
The B-17
The B-17 flying fortress could withstand heavy fire in many areas but it had it's weak points. It was covered in turrets from head to toe….or rudder, I don't know. Anyways, the rear gunner was the in the most dangerous area, because planes always shot at the rear turret before attacking the bomber.
The B-24
The B-17's speed-upgraded form, contains less turrets as the B-17, but gained about 50 mph in speed, and used less fuel. As always, the rear gunner was most likely to die.
That's all for now, I will publish more WWII/airplane related subjects, I hope you enjoyed!!
