Five Historic Inventions From Canada

Have you ever sat back and thought about where everyday items such as your stove was invented?

Well here's a small list of five Canadian inventions that either made history or helped to change it.

  1. Walkie Talkie

This is Donald L. Hings and his first Walkie Talkie invention. Donald invented the portable radio device in 1942 for the Canadian Military but had been inventing portable devices since 1937. Donald died in 2004 but his inventions will always carry on and be remembered.
  2. Artificial Pacemaker

Dr John A. Hopps was considered the “father of biomedical engineering of Canada”. In 1949 along with 3 other Doctor's, John invented and perfected the first external artificial pacemaker. John Hopps died November 24, 1998 and will always remain a historic figure in Canadian history.
  3. Electric Light Bulb

Many people believe that the electric light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison but in all truth it was actually invented by Henry Woodward and one other Canadian. The two men actually had a patent on the bulb in 1874 shortly after inventing it. In 1879 they sold their patient because they couldn't get people to invest but Thomas Edison saw the potential and quickly bought it from them and well the rest is history.
  4. Electric Cooking Range

Now this is the first electric stove which was invented by Thomas Ahearn in 1882. By 1892 Thomas had cooked the first meal on an electric stove which he built at the Windsor Hotel in Montreal. This invention is still widely used through out the world.
  5. Pablum

Anyone who has ever had a baby is definitely familiar with Pablum which was developed by 3 Canadian pediatricians at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto in 1930's. Pablum is still a number one product for giving babies the nutrition and vitamins they need to grow up healthy.
