There have been few heroes whose might match up to that of Odysseus. Odysseus is the hero in The Odyssey that was lost at sea after the Trojan War. He and his men attempt to make it back to their homeland safely. Throughout the story Odysseus shows that he possess many qualities that only a true hero would have; strength, cleverness, and charisma.
Odysseus is helped by his men a number of times throughout the story. An example of this is the general loyalty of his men. They seem to carry out any task that is given to them without any question. Odysseus would not have been able to sneak back into the palace and slay the suitors if it were not for his men that stayed on the island. Having people always there to help you is a good characteristic of a hero because it shows that they are respected.
Odysseus often uses his knowledge and wits to escape from peril. The most prominent evidence of this is when he thinks up a plan to escape the Cyclops's cave. He uses his cleverness to blind the Cyclops and sneak out of the cave under the wools of lambs. Odysseus was also able to defeat the Trojans by building a giant horse as a gift and hiding his men inside. Being able to use your knowledge to outsmart other people is an important trait for a hero because it allows you to make good decisions to get out of bad situations.
Finally, Odysseus is the story's strongest warrior. He fought in the Trojan War and led his men to victory. He also shows his strength over other people in the test of the bow. Odysseus is the only person strong enough to string his bow and fire it through ten axe handles. He also has emotional strength because he is constantly dealing with the fact that he is homesick and missing his wife. Strength is an important aspect of a hero because a hero's strength is seen as his main physical power. Strength allows him to do things that others can not.
These are the three traits that Odysseus has that are most heroic. Without these characteristics it would not have been possible for him to fight in the war and make it home safely.
