As the economy grew in the 1950s more families could afford to buy new kitchen appliances however there were still people who could not afford a fancy kitchen. Refrigerators, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, coffee makers, food mixers and stainless steel sinks were now in lots of homes.
New colours started to come out. People in the 50s started to want new things which meant it was the right time for bright colours to be used. People where sick of looking at wood and you can't blame them wood has been around before humans existed but this modern technology wasn't around 50 years ago. A pink plastic fridge was really exciting for those that previously couldn't afford a bike.
Those that still were unable to afford new technology were living with what ever the 40s gave them. Most of these people lived in rural areas and the technology was not wanted as much as it was for those that lived in the city.
The transistor was invented which meant that a lot more technology could be made cheaper and better like the transistor radio. Fridges were just invented so it was real exciting to throw away those ice boxes and TVs were in at least 1 home in every street. The 50s was the decade that fridges, TV's and washing machines became needs instead of wants.
Then: everything was brightly coloured and considered a luxury. Now: nothing is fancy and even homeless people have mp3 players.
