Though the news that the northwest passage did not exist was very disappointing, the large numbers of discoveries made up for it. For example Lewis and Clark made peace by giving the Native Americans gifts to trust them with, usually tobacco, and later gave them peace medals. They also made good connections with the Indians and carried out the informational studies. So, they held several councils with the Indian tribes that they met on their journey.
In the 1820's the Americans wanted to open the door to relations and get trading rights with the Indians. Making these trading rights , they hoped to steal trade away from the Spanish, French, English, and Russian. With all of these tributes they made a firm basis with the Indians.
Lewis and Clark also were interested in the nature of this new land. They noted the land's qualities for agricultural use in the future. While also studying plant and animal life, noting minerals, and recording the new lands climate. They also had some accomplishments in the field of animal science. Lewis and Clark were the first to describe the many plant and animal species new to science in detail. They also gave a better understanding of the range, habits, and physical characteristics of the animals.
In Conclusion everyone can relate to the effects or the discoveries they made back then. From learning about the Native Americans to the animal and plant studies they made. Lewis and Clark made a huge impact on civilization today.
