When you think about Egypt and Mesopotamia, you would think that they are very different. There are different, but they also have many similarities. Mesopotamia and Egypt are both civilizations that have effected the way that we live. That is why we learn about these cultures. Their differences and similarities have shaped cultures that follow.
There are some physical and cultural similarities between these civilizations.
Both Mesopotamians and Egyptians are polytheistic. This means that they believed in many different gods, dealing mainly with nature. In both cultures, women had many of the same rights as men. Some women could be merchants, while others could be quite powerful. Egyptians and Mesopotamians both had forms of writing. These forms allowed them to grow, communicate, and keep records. These similarities show how different cultures are connected.
There are also many differences between Egypt and Mesopotamia. While the Mesopotamians had a grim outlook on death, Egyptians believed in afterlife. They planned their own burials and were mummified and buried with their belongings. In Egypt, the Nile River flooded predictably during certain times of the year. The Tigris and Euphrates Rivers flooded Mesopotamia at unpredictable times at least once a year.
In Mesopotamia, their kings represented the gods. In Egypt, the kings were gods.
They were as powerful as the gods in heaven. These differences show their cultural individuality.
I have learned that Egypt and Mesopotamia have individuality as cultures.
They are also connected by certain aspects of their lives. It is these things that have affected the way we live today. All cultures have similarities and differences. Without them, could not be the world we are now.
