The Deadliest Tsunami in History: Thailand, 2004

This is just as the wave hit Ao Nang in Thailand on December 26th 2004. It was an undersea earthquake just off Sumatra, Indonesia in the Pacific Ocean that caused this deadly wave.

And this is just some of the destruction after the Tsunami. Thousands of people lost family, their homes and livelihoods. Over 225,000 people were killed in 11 countries.
Kobe Earthquake: Japan, 1995

This is just some of the destruction caused by the earthquake in 1995. Over 5,500 people were killed and more than 26,000 injured. The quake measured 7.2 on the Richter scale.
Floods/ Mudslides: Vargas, Venezuela,1999

The tragedy of Vargas took over 15,000 lives and left a city in ruins. The mudslides followed two days of torrential rain and it is reported that the town of Los Corales was buried in 3 metres of mud!
Bhola Cyclone: Pakistan, 1970

In 1970, a cyclone hit East Pakistan killing an estimated 500,000 people. This photo shows just some of the aftermath of the massive storm. The cyclone was as strong as a category 3 hurricane.
Hurricane Katrina: United States, New Orleans, 2005

Hurricane Katrina is the fifth worst hurricane in American history. This picture shows some of the destruction seen in New Orleans, the worst hit area.

This pictures shows the extent of the damage caused by hurricane Katrina. Nearly 2000 people lost their lives in what is seen as one of Americas worst natural disasters. Efforts are still ongoing to rebuild the lives and homes of the people affected by the hurricane.
Yellow River (Huang He) Flood: China, 1931

The Yellow River is over 3,395 miles long and is the second largest river in China. In 1931 it flooded and it is estimated that up to 2 million people were killed either by the flood itself or linked factors such as disease etc. This river is prone to flooding and had previously flooded in 1887, killing nearly the same amount of people.
