Olympian Mythology

There are many Olympians in mythology; the more famous ones are Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hermes, Apollo, Artemisia, Athena, and Iris.

Now what I bet you didn't know was that before these gods it was said existed the titans. The king and ruler of all the titans was Kronos, from which were born Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Athena, and two other gods. The story is that Kronos had six children the last of which was Zeus. Kronos did not like his children so he swallowed them when they were born but when Zeus was born his mother saved him and kept him alive. When he came of age he battled Kronos forcing him to throw up his brothers and sisters. Zeus overtook his father and became king of the gods and vanquished all gods to Tartarus and the gods together chopped Kronos into a million pieces and sent him to the deepest worst part of Tartarus. Later the gods began having children of their own with each other but after a while began coming down from Olympus and began having children with humans, these children were called demi-gods or “heroes”. The most famous of which were Pursues and Hercules.

Pursues was said to have chopped off the head of medusa and bring it back to the gods and have done many more great feats. Hercules was said have accomplished many, many things such as slay a Cyclops. Though after a long time the Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades realized their demi-god children were more powerful than other demi-gods so they made a pact to have no more children with mortals. In case you did not know Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades were the “Big Three” they were the top gods. Zeus had control over the sky, the earth, and Olympus, Poseidon is ruler of the sea (more commonly known as Neptune), and Hades controls the underworld and the lost souls of the dead. That is only a taste of the wonders of mythology. I hope this article has gotten you interested in mythology because for me once I start reading about it I can't stop.
