Revolutionary War

Information on the two sides during the Revolutionary War.

The Revolutionary War can be seen from three points of view and this article is from a neutral point of view. Most of you have probably made up your mind about what side you're on. If you have chosen the British then here is a little bit about their army. British soldiers were trained military men and most of them had seen action in other parts of the world. They were well trained in battle techniques and also well equipped with boots, guns, ammo and uniforms. Now if you have chosen to be on the colonist's side here is a bit about their army. First of all the colonists we called minute men and they were not trained soldiers, they were just all the townspeople. Minuteman had no uniforms and the weapons they used were mainly for hunting.

So head to head, the British would kick the colonist's butts but the colonists had a few advantages that the British didn't. Foremost the colonists knew the land a bit better than the Redcoats so during the battle of Bunker Hill the British suffered huge losses. Also the colonists didn't follow the rules of war. The British would stay in ranks and not move until the commanders told them to; the minutemen on the other hand would fire and flee, shooting from behind fences and rocks. This way of fighting helped the colonist come out ok in the battles of Concord and Lexington.

Some leaders of the Minutemen were George Washington, Benedict Arnold, James Barrett, Nathaniel Greene, and William Prescott. Some leaders of the British were John Burgoyne, Charles Cornwallis and Alexander Stewart. If it wasn't for these leaders the Revolutionary War outcome could have been different. Throughout the war British had the upper hand in size at almost every battle. Here are the reasons the colonists are fighting, taxes have played a huge part in the war such as the Stamp Act and the Tea Act. But mainly they were fighting to be separated from Britain and to become their own country.

The British were fighting because they believed that the colonists were all from Britain and that they deserved to be under the same law and have the same taxes. Also the King had financed the trip over for all the colonists and now they are making an army so they could be separated. That made the king angry so he wanted to get back at the colonists and a war was the perfect way. So if you haven't decided if you are a loyalist or a patriot re-read the facts and make a decision.
