Roman Gods & Temples

The Ancient Romans and their worshiping rituals.

The Romans worshiped many different gods and goddesses. Each god or goddess was the god of something and whenever these different things happened to someone they would pray to that god. For example Mars was the god of war so this meant whenever someone had to fight they would ask for help from Mars. So there was basically a god for everything, so there were hundreds and hundreds of gods. The whole lot of gods was called the Pantheon. As the land around Rome, before the city was built, was a village full of Latin people. As the city was built Romans inherited these gods but changed names for some of them.

Once the city of Rome was very big it changed its gods on what they had found from the Greeks pantheon. Some stayed the same new gods were adapted to create the full pantheon of Rome. Some of the main gods and goddesses were gods of important things to Romans like war, love and just gods with pure power. Some of these were called Jupiter the god with the most power and the ruler of all gods, Mars god of war, Juno and Venus both gods to do with females and love and beauty.

These gods and goddesses were worshiped in huge temples like this stone one here.
